What does a static security guard do?
A static guard is stationed at a key point on your premises (an entrance, gatehouse, loading dock or reception) and provides a constant, visible security presence. Our static guards also carry out regular patrols so the whole site stays secure, not just the post they are standing at.
Typical duties
- Access control: checking that only authorised people and vehicles enter the premises.
- Gatehouse and guard house monitoring: running entry points and logging movements.
- Regular site patrols: checking boundaries, doors and high-value areas during the shift.
- Deterrence: a uniformed presence that discourages theft, vandalism and other security threats.
- Incident response: responding calmly and professionally if something happens, and reporting it to you.
Where are static guards used?
- Businesses and offices that need front-of-house access control.
- Construction sites where plant, tools and materials need protecting around the clock. See Construction Site Security.
- Warehouses and industrial sites with gatehouses, loading bays and stock.
- Residential buildings that need a constant presence. For a front-desk role with customer service, see Concierge Security.

Static security guard FAQs
What is a static security guard?
A static security guard is stationed at a key location, such as an entrance, gatehouse or reception, to provide continuous on-site protection. Our static guards also carry out regular patrols so the whole site stays secure.
Where are static security guards used?
Static guards are used at businesses, construction sites, warehouses and residential buildings, anywhere that needs a constant visible deterrent against theft, vandalism and unauthorised access.
What is the difference between a static guard and a mobile patrol?
A static guard stays on your site for the whole shift. A mobile patrol officer visits your property at set or random times to check it. Static guards suit sites that need constant presence or access control; mobile patrols are a cost-effective option when periodic checks are enough.
Do you provide gatehouse security?
Yes. Our officers can control gatehouses and other access points so that only authorised people enter the premises. We provide gatehouse security across Victoria.
How much does a static security guard cost per hour in Melbourne?
The hourly cost depends on the shift times and days (weekends, nights and public holidays usually cost more), how long you need cover, the number of guards and the duties involved. Contact us for a free quote.
